What to expect at a Keystone Match

· Typically, an adult admission fee of $1.00 - $3.00 is charged, wrestlers are free, and other children are free or at a lesser rate.

· Upon arriving at the school, you must check in at the Penn Trafford table. A Penn Trafford representative will pull the wrestler's card from the stack of cards, and check his/her name off noting presence. Please verify the information on the card. This is a very important step, because if you do not check in at the table your child will not be paired for a match.

· No weigh-ins are conducted, the wrestlers weight at the time of sign-ups is used to match him with another wrestler at that weight, give or take 5 pounds.

· Your wrestler will have 2-3 matches, paired with someone of equal experience, aggressiveness, weight and age each match.

· Wrestlers can warm up with some of our coaches while other coaching representatives of each school pair the wrestlers and schedule the matches.

· There are usually 4 - 6 matches going on at a time. Please listen for your child's name and or weight/age and send him to the staging area. (The staging area is a pre-defined area of the gym where the wrestlers report and are paired up with another wrestler to wait their turn to wrestle on the assigned mat.)

· Always be sure your wrestler has a Penn Trafford coach at his mat before he begins a match. (If a coach is not present, the announcer will ask for a coach to come to that particular mat, however, please don't start without a coach).

· Parents and siblings can go down to the mat where their child is wrestling but they cannot be on the wrestling area of the mat or interfere with the coaching or refereeing. Video taping is allowed.

· Wins and loses are recorded for the Keystone League, this is done to "seed", or rank the wrestler over time. There are no awards presented, these matches are purely for practice and experience.

· The hosting school usually sells concessions, consisting of breakfast and lunch items. A 50/50 drawing is usually held as well as a raffle or two. At times, wrestling gear vendors set up tables at these matches and items are sold during the day.

· A Keystone Tournament / Match can start around 8:00 AM, and be over by 2:00 PM. Each host school sets the starting times, and split-starting times may be arranged according to age groups. (IE: Age 8 and under wrestling may start at 8:00 AM, and 9 and up wrestling may start at 11:30 AM). Please check our website each week for dates and times of matches & directions to the schools.

· Make sure to check with the head coach before you leave to verify that your child is done for the day. There will be times that your child will wrestle more than 2 -3 matches.
